What is a romantic and what is a realist? Can a romantic and a realist ever have a relationship together? What are the factors that will bring them together or keep them apart? These are the questions that Christopher Marlowe and Sir Walter Raleigh have posed in their poems, "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" and the response to this poem "The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd".

The shepherd is the romantic proposing his love to a nymph. His whole life, from the littlest thing to the biggest thing, is all he has to offer to her. To him, there is no difference with how small or big the offers are. He believes his heart and the feelings from his heart is what should matter the most to propose such love. He promises her his environment such as the land, the animals, etc. to try to persuade her how beautiful their life can be and what enjoyment they can attain from this together. He tries to propose what beauty could be found and made with his resources "Thy belt of straw and ivy buds,/ with coral clasps and amber studs." because it would be given from his heart. Marlowe, shows the shepherd as helplessly in love with the nymph, because he offers her so much without even thinking of what she might like or not like. Not once in the poem did the shepherd ask what she thought of his offers or his love.

The nymph's reply to the shepherd consists of nothing but negativity and disappointment. Raleigh describes the nymph as a realist. She is very skeptical of the shepherd's proposal. "If all the world and love were young/ And truth in every shepherd's tongue". It seems as if she believes the shepherd to be a liar or has experienced being lied to too many times. She makes it seem that all he has to offer is something that is not substantial. She seems very cold-hearted and unable to love. She does not have a problem expressing herself but it is the way she expresses herself that shows she can only express concrete feelings and not abstract ones. "The flowers do fade, and wanton fields/ To wayward winter reckoning yields;/ A honey tongue, a heart of gall,/ Is fancy's spring, but sorrow's fall." She can not see past the objects that he offers, which are his emotions of love.

Who knows if these two can ever be together or if any romantic and realist can have a relationship? The shepherd and the nymph are looking for two different types of relationships. They have a lot in common such as the ability to love and having goals. The differences are in what they believe true love is, how they love, the way their lives are supposed to be spent and what their goals are. I think the shepherd sees the beauty of his offers and expects the nymph to see it his way. She on the other hand can not see past that or the reason why. They say opposites do attract, but to what extent? In this case the shepherd will have to promise something more concrete than the abstract love he has to offer, which the nymph is not looking for. The shepherd proposes in the poem, "And I will make thee beds of roses/ And a thousand fragrant poises,/ A cap of flowers, and a kirtle/ Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle;". She is not moved by this because her reply is, "Thy gowns, thy shoes, thy bed of roses,/ thy cap, thy kirtle, and thy posies/ soon break, soon wither, soon forgotten-/in folly ripe, in season rotten". The nymph will have to find the positive things and not be so pessimistic toward the Shepherd and what he is willing to offer. I do not think there can be any compromises made to make this relationship work. It will have to be either the shepherd's way or the nymph's way. Love is strong but it will be hard to compromise all these objectives.

Absolute zero is defined as the lowest temperature theoretically possible, when all motion ceases to exist. It is described as the complete absence of heat; at absolute zero all classical molecular motion stops, equal to 0 Kelvin or -7.15° Celsius (45.6 degrees Fahrenheit). However, quantum mechanically, molecules cannot cease all motion (as this would violate the Heisenberg uncertainty principle), so at 0 K they still vibrate with a certain small, but nonzero energy known as the zero-point energy. Even at absolute zero all the atoms in a solid are vibrating like crazy; they just cant vibrate any LESS because they've reached they're lowest possible energy level. A temperature below absolute zero would imply a speed of less than zero, which is not possible. Atoms in a room temperature gas normally move about 1,000 miles per hour and slow down as temperatures drop, atoms at these super-low temperatures close to absolute zero move about feet per hour. At very low temperatures in the vicinity of absolute zero, matter exhibits many unusual properties including superconductivity, superfluidity, and Bose-Einstein condensation. The concept came about when scientists were experimenting with gases, mainly helium, and found that when a volume of gas is cooled, the pressure goes down also. Although they could not get the temperature down to 0 Kelvin, they plotted their experimental results and deduced that there was a point where the pressure and temperature dropped to a point where 0 Kelvin was possible.

Although absolute zero has never been reached experimentally, scientists have come close. As of 001 the lowest temperature ever achieved was 0 nK (0 billionths of a degree above absolute zero). This record-setting low temperature was achieved in 15 by scientists using rubidium atoms and working for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). However, the process is not easy. Beginning with a gas of room-temperature atoms, the rubidium is first slowed and captured in a trap created by light produced by diode lasers similar to ones used in compact disk players. The infrared lasers are aligned so that the atoms are bombarded by a steady stream of photons from all directions. The wavelength of the photons is chosen so that they will interact only with atoms that are moving toward the photons. It is comparable to a person running around outside in a hailstorm. Hail is hitting the person in the face from all possible directions, so the person instinctively stops.

This cools the atoms to about 10 millionths of a degree above absolute zero, still far too hot to produce Bose-Einstein condensation, about 10 million of these cold atoms are captured in a light trap. Once the atoms are trapped, the lasers are turned off and the atoms are kept in place by a magnetic field. All atoms have a tiny magnet attached to them caused by the spin of the electron. The atoms can be trapped, or held in place, if a magnetic field is properly arranged around them. The atoms are further cooled in the magnetic trap by selecting the hottest atoms and kicking them out of the trap. It works in a way similar to the evaporative cooling process that cools a hot cup of coffee (the hottest atoms leap out of the cup as steam).

With the demagnetization of certain salts with low magnetizability, called paramagnetic salts, the super-low temperatures like those created by the scientists of NIST have been achieved.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Absolute ZeroMeasuring the temperature near absolute zero also presents problems. Gas thermometers are only useful until the liquefying point of helium. Even most unconventional thermometers tend to introduce some vibration to the atmosphere that raises the temperature. To solve this problem, scientists use magnetic and electric measurements to determine temperature. Recently, laser spectroscopy has been used to deduce temperature.

Death Is Good For Life

Death by itself is not very interesting but it is an enormously affecting and important part of anyones life. In innumerable cases over the centuries, it has been seen that it causes emotional disturbances in people who are left behind, although, it has yet to be scientifically proven or disproven that it has any effect whatsoever on the dead. So, when a state, run by a body consisting of representatives of the people, awards death to a convict, it leaves little doubt that death will receive a very high level of attention, not due to curiosity in death but the objectivity and the sensibility of the award itself. The debate, however, presupposes that awarding a sentence to the guilty by law is not immoral. While the people, who oppose The Death Penalty are critical about the absence of empirical or circumstantial proof that The Death Penalty actually reduces crime, as a proponent of The Death Penalty, I hope to justify my belief and thought regarding this form of corrective justice, and would like to draw the readers attention on its usefulness in making life a better place to live.

USA is one of the very few industrialized countries in the world, that practice capital punishment and uses lethal injections to execute criminals of all categories - even mentally ill and juvenile murderers. It probably sounds harsh and morally wrong to end a human life when we cannot create one, but the death penalty is awarded to convicts who have committed heinous crimes and do not deserve the privilege to live in the society. Execution of such men and women frees the society of evil and justice is served to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. In most cases, the relatives of a victim feel a sense of closure in their minds, although, the pain in their hearts never diminish.

The fear of death deters people from committing crimes that can result in capital punishment. When people associate an execution as punishment for crimes like manslaughter, they develop fear and hatred for such crimes. Children grow up with good moral values and are able to identify crimes that can lead them to their path of destruction. Escaping the law, using age and inexperience as an excuse while committing pre-meditated murder does not hold good in a legal system that grants death penalty for such heinous acts. The lawmakers use death penalty as a weapon for establishing good rules and discipline for the government and people. They claim that their governments are fair and do not tolerate crimes, thus ensuring good law and order. They make sure that every citizen has faith in their governments when justice matters. The law keepers, like police have a strong say and a challenging task in such an environment. Together, they serve the population with a criminal free society.

Write my Essay on Death is Good For Life cheap

In the end, I believe that death penalty has a profound effect on the convict himself. He realizes that he has committed a crime, so severe that he has lost the opportunity to live in the world. It brings fear in his mind about death, making him realize the feelings of his/her victims. Hopefully, the convict feels remorse for his actions and prepares himself for his last meal. Sitting in the cell and counting the last days, hours, minutes and seconds is the most dreadful and pathetic moment for a criminal who will face execution. The death penalty, being the most severe form of punishment for a crime, helps in placing a human life at the highest level. As the society gets rid of the criminal, it becomes a safer place for people to live. I believe that the key to a progressive, powerful and economically successful society depends on a strong and fair legal system that can generate timely justice and bring closures to matters.

The Chicago Tribune was started in 1847 by two newspapermen and a leather merchant. The Tribune has always been a leader in its industry. Early in its history, it merged with the Democratic Press and later took over Chicago's oldest paper, the Daily Democrat. The paper expanded to radio in 14 and broadcast its first television program in 148. In 181, the Tribune Company purchased the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Then, in 1, the paper started its first online service, available only through America Online. Finally, in 16, Chicagotribune.com was formed.

The Chicagotribune.com was the first online newspaper to hire reporters specifically to produce stories for the online edition of the Tribune. Many online newspapers just reprinted the daily newspaper online, but the Chicagotribune.com posted early versions of print stories on their website. The Chicagotribune.com had trouble keeping employees because technology companies such as Sun Microsystems, AOL, and Microsoft were luring them away. The Chicagotribune.com had a rapidly changing environment and when they hired new employees they told them that their job responsibilities might change in three months or even three days. The Chicagotribune.com began to build a brand for itself by offering various content that was unique to the web. They began by implementing the "Metro Daywatch," a feature that ran breaking news stories as soon as they happened. This was something the printed paper couldn't do with printing deadlines and such. Part of the Chicagotribune.com's success was due to implementing technology into the newspaper's infrastructure. In 17, the Chicagotribune.com implemented Story Server, a content management system for the web.

Even though technology has played a large part in the Chicagotribune.com and the way information is related to its readers, its competitive advantage is still the same as its print counterpart. Its competitive advantage is its ability to provide solid reporting and compelling writing

Skiing - Creative Essay

I was the first person to ski off of the chairlift that day,

arriving at the summit of Bosquets Mountain, nestled in the heart of the

Berkshires. It was the type of day when the clouds seemed to blanket the

Cheap University Papers on Nono Noto goes skiing

sky, leaving no clue that the sun, with its powerful light, even existed

anymore. It was not snowing, but judging by the damp, musty, stale scent

in the air, I realized it would be only a short time before the white

flakes overtook the mountain.

As I readied myself to make the first run, I took a moment to

appreciate my surroundings. Somehow things seemed much different up here.

The wind, nonexistent at the bottom, began to gust. Its cold bite found my

nose. Its quick and sudden swirling movement kicked loose snow into my

face, forcing me to zip my jacket over my chin. Its strange how the gray

clouds, which seemed so far above me at the bottom, really didnt appear

that high anymore. If I had a tall enough ladder, I mig ht be able to

touch them. As I gazed out over the landscape, the city below seemed

unrecognizable. The enormous buildings which I had driven past earlier

looked like dollhouses a child might play with. The towering smokestacks

of the factories wou ld not have caught my eye had it not been for the tiny

stream of gray emerging from them. At this distance, the smoke spiraled

upward like tree branches reaching for the sky.

The air was raw and stung me through my many layers of clothing.

There was snow all around me. It was on the trail and in the trees. There

was so much white, that my eyes became blinded by so much absence of color.

It was too cold to remain at the top forever, so I decided to make

my run. I gave a strong push with my poles, starting my skis sliding

gently across the snowy terrain. I kept my speed slow in order to feel out

the mountain and its changing conditions. Ahead of me lay a carpet of

virgin, white snow totally untouched by other skiers. A skiers dream.

The steepness of the mountain increased my speed as the cold air whistled

past my ears. I edged my skis which responded to perfection , cutting into

the snow and tracking across the mountain.

As I gained speed by the second, my turns grew in length.

Approaching the steepest part of the trail, I noticed an imperfection in

the snow. A large bump jutted itself out of the ground, waiting to devour

skiers. Unfortunately I noticed t he bump too late to adjust my turns and

change my course to avoid it. As my right ski passed over it, my cold

muscles were unable to absorb the shock sent to my leg. The sudden jerk of

my ski sent it screaming off of my foot, leaving only a ski boo t behind.

Unable to keep my balance, I leaned forward, sending my head on a course

straight for the ground. My face was so cold it felt like it was on fire.

I spun and tumbled as my inertia pulled me down the mountain. My arms and

legs ached as they pounded into the snow. I finally stopped after the

mountain had enough fun with me. I stood up, painted with snow. The snow

on my face melted, leaving drops of water trickling into my mouth. As I

looked up the hill, I noticed my two skies, m y poles and goggles some

thirty feet above me. I put aside the throbbing pain of my muscles for the

moment and began to climb up the mountain to retrieve my equipment. I had

a lot of climbing to do and was winded as I stepped back into my skis. I

thought about the near disaster as I began to make my way, more cautiously

than usual down the mountain. As I neared the bottom of the mountain, I

realized I had avoided a trip down the mountain in the dreaded ski patrol

sled. I smiled to myself as I skied back into the lift line for my next

run down the mountain.

Work Teams

In the article, "The Trouble with Teams", Brian Dumaine (14) outlines Boeing Aircraft's use of work teams in manufacturing its Boeing 777 passenger jet. According to Henry Shomber, a chief engineer at the firm, Boeing's organizational structure "encourages teams to work together and seize initiative" (Dumaine, 14, p.5).

The design and manufacture of the Boeing 777 involved approximately 10,000 employees and more than 500 suppliers. Obviously, a team-based structure would be the most efficient way to tackle such a massive project. Thus, Boeing began by creating a hierarchy of teams in order to get all its employees headed in the same direction.

The original hierarchy of teams was comprised of three distinct tiers. The top layer consisted of a management team, made up of five or six top managers from such disciplines as engineering, manufacturing, and finance. This top work team had the primary responsibility of building the plane correctly and on time. The second tier of the hierarchy consisted of 5-0 two-person teams, comprising a group of approximately 50 leaders. These leaders were responsible for over-seeing the third tier of 00 work teams, which were responsible for specific parts of the plane. These 00-plus work teams were cross-functional work-teams of five to 15 workers, and each team was responsible for such items as the airplane's wings, tail, flap, etc…Cross-functional work teams, such as the third tier in Boeing's team structure, are comprised of employees from about the same hierarchical level who are brought together to accomplish a particular task. That is, each work team in the bottom tier was responsible for creating and producing a specific portion of the passenger jet.

Each week, the top management team would meet with the members of the second tier to discuss such items as schedule delays or quality problems. The second tier group would also alert the top management team to any problems they'd noticed while over-seeing the cross-functional teams. Such communication was vital to the success of Boeing's aircraft. Such a team structure worked well to "move information quickly up the organization…[but] that information wasn't moving horizontally as well" (Dumaine, 14, p. 6). In other words, the 00-plus cross-functional teams were not communicating with one another. For instance, the wing team and the cockpit team were not communicating, which inevitably caused serious design glitches. In order to correct the situation, Boeing added yet a fourth tier of work teams, called "airplane integration teams". Boeing added five of these teams, each consisting of 1 to 15 people, in order to properly foster effective communication between the third tier work teams.

The article likened the integration teams to the corpus collosum, the central part of the brain that transmits information between both hemispheres of the brain. This integration team effectively helped to prevent many serious design glitches. For instance, one cross-functional work team designed the passengers' oxygen system in the same place that another team had put the system for different component, a "gasper system". Fortunately, one team noticed the conflicting designs, and contacted an integration team for advice. All three teams worked together, for a mere three hours, before coming up with a clever, inventive solution making a special clamp that could hold both systems. Fortunately for Boeing, the teams were able to spot and correct the glitch before the plane went into production. For instance, according to Dumaine (14), "At the old Boeing, a problem like that probably wouldn't have been caught until the plane was being manufactured, or… would have been pushed up the traditional hierarchy and taken weeks to resolve" (p. 7). Thus, adding airline integration teams was crucial to Boeing's successful teamwork.

Such a team structure has certainly paid off for Boeing the Boeing 777 flew its first test flight with less than half the number of design glitches of earlier programs, and Boeing certainly has its teams to thank for such a success.

Advertising now days is everywhere we look. Examples such as billboard signs on the highway, to commercials on television, companies are trying to persuade you to buy a certain product. Their product, which is supposed to be the best of the best on the market, constantly appears to buyers as appealing; a product you just have to buy. Catchy jingles, slogans, and brand names are the secret weapons used in advertising.

Most advertisements for clothing, bathing suits, etc, show shapely thin women and men; this makes our country think that fat is demeaning and not socially accepted. For example, I once saw a commercial on T.V. which advertised a brand of shampoo and conditioner," Pantene Pro-V, will fix damaged hair but will also make your hair shiny and smooth." The beautiful long haired girl in the commercial is another appealing factor that makes viewers want the product. After seeing the commercial, I went out and bought the Pantene Pro-V Shiny and Smooth, shampoo and conditioner, thinking it would make my hair look like the woman's hair in the commercial. This type of advertising has caused everyone to want to look like the people in the ads. Diets of all sorts have been developed to try to meet these expectations. However, when a person using these products feels they are not achieving the results they expected, they sometimes go through depression or develop low self-esteem. In my opinion, these advertisements have a negative outreach. Who is to say only thin people look great?

New cars are constantly advertised on TV and the radio; offering the best deals around like, "zero percent APR financing" and "no money down." Car advertisements always make the viewer think it is so simple to go out and buy a new car, without mentioning the process most people must go through to get the money to buy the car.

Cheap University Papers on Advertising: A Secret Weapon

Advertising can also be educational and rewarding with regards to prices and who offers the best deal. One such publication that informs consumers of the best-tested and best-priced items is Consumers Magazine. This magazine has a test facility that tests various items without bias, and reports to the consumer what the best up-coming products are via their magazine.

Advertising is not created and used just to provide a smug example of public morality; advertising is honest because it has to be. What I mean by honesty is that the product description does not always match up to the product displayed. Let's take a look at liquor and tobacco advertising. The image of the Marlboro Man is one example that makes a harmful substance appear innocent. This type of advertisement depicts a buff, handsome, cool man smoking a cigarette. What message is this conveying to young teenagers? That it is cool to smoke; we all know it has been proven that smoking cigarettes can cause cancer.

The media also sends out some good messages such as "be cool stay in school"; anti-cigarette commercials that depict the health hazards and the negative effects smoking can have on the family. When I was little, in elementary school, I can remember all the commercials about drugs, telling how bad they were. Gladly to say, I really feel they did have an impact on not only myself, but other kids my age at that time.

Advertisements often do not explicitly urge the consumer to buy a given product; rather they promise that the products will enhance a person's life. This gives a whole range of desiderata including youthfulness, attractiveness, social grace, security, success, and the admiration of others. We, as the consumer, have to evaluate the good from the bad, as well as the pros and cons of advertisement. We must evaluate what we truly need and what is the best product.
