Montana 148 Summary of pages 5-151

As David was making his way back to the ranch from his ride, he noticed his father and uncle arguing near the riverbank. David inched closer without being noticed to observe what was going on. He was not able to hear however; he assumed they were discussing Marie's accusations. David had some brief passing thoughts about shooting his uncle and ending all of the pain associated with his uncle's actions. David's hands were shaking so badly holding the gun; he put it away knowing that he never would have been able to fire a shot. He stayed long enough to see them both walking back to the ranch knowing things were OK for he time being.

When the family arrived back home from the ranch, Marie seemed to be feeling much better. The next day David went fishing with his friends, only to come home to hear that Marie had been murdered in her bed. David was sent next door to the neighbors' house until a decision could be made about how to handle the situation. Later that evening, David told his father that Uncle Frank was at the house earlier in the day and Len (his deputy) had seen Frank go into the Hayden's house. Three days later, Wesley brought Frank to the house to discuss Marie's death. Frank did not deny his involvement and Wesley locked Frank in the basement until the legal ramifications were worked out. Later that evening Wesley's parents came to visit because Gloria (Frank's wife) had told them what Wesley had done with Frank. Julian demanded to speak with Frank but Wesley told Julian that he could not honor his request. Wesley began to try and explain what Frank had done to Marie and some of the other Indian girls. Julian would not believe Wesley and accused him of being jealous of his brother. When Wesley told his father that molestation was not the only crime Frank was being held for, Julian demanded to know the reason. Wesley told him that Frank murdered Marie. Julian refused to believe what he was saying and left the house.

The next day, a truck came to the Hayden's house with four men in it. They were sent by Julian to release Frank. Neither Wesley nor Len were around to stop the men from coming on to the property. David was in the house and the first to notice the men. He was in the process of calling out to his mother when she came out of the back bedroom carrying her husband's shotgun. She fired warning shots at the men and demanded, "You get away from there! Get away from the house-do you hear me?" All of a sudden Len McCauley came over from his house indicating the men should move away from the house, he said something else to them and they began to turn back towards their truck.

When Wesley received a message about the happenings at his home, he returned at once. He went over to speak with Len about the scene and found out from him that Julian had approached Len to release Frank and Len turned down his request. After this episode, Gail begged Wesley to let Frank go because she was afraid that something would happen and David would be hurt in the process. Wesley went down into the basement with the intention of releasing Frank, however, he came back up the stairs alone. Wesley said he could not release him because "Frank was guilty as sin. He told me as much." Gail was upset but she understood that Frank was not remorseful about his crimes and Wesley could not live with himself if he did not arrest his brother for the murder of Marie Little Soldier.

I believe my volunteer experience at Westmoreland Regional Hospital and the Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy Association has been the most influential and beneficial thing I've done in my life. I've learned valuable lessons and developed a new passion for life. Spending time in both a hospital and a clinical setting, I discovered my deep compassion for others and my strong desire to help people. As a result, I have chosen physical therapy as my future career.

My experience at the hospital began with candystriping in the spring of 000. My time in the Intensive Care Unit, the Progressive Care Unit, and the Short Stay Unit entailed filling patients' water pitchers, opening mail, and stocking rooms. After fifty hours of this educational, but monotonous work, I was promoted to the Gastro-Intestinal Recovery Lab. The friendly charge nurse took me under her wing and taught me to clean and make beds, complete necessary paperwork, and escort and discharge patients.

My enthusiasm and dependability at the hospital did not go unnoticed, and I was quickly rewarded with another "promotion". As one of the only junior volunteers to receive this opportunity, I was proud to begin training in the fast-paced Westmoreland Regional Hospital Emergency Room. There I was independently retrieving medications and blood samples, completing long lists of important assignments, and dealing with many patient problems and concerns. I am very grateful to have had the chance to devote one hundred and fifty hours of my time so productively.

It was when my mother broke her leg two years ago and needed months of physical therapy that I was introduced to this exciting field. I accompanied her to sessions and admired the therapist's successful career, healing power, and health-conscious lifestyle. I began researching nutrition and joined the Aerobic Center. I strengthened and toned my body as expected, but my overall attitude toward fitness and health also improved dramatically. I am now extremely interested in eating right and maintaining optimal health through routine exercise.

Write your Why I want to learn Physical Therapy at your school research paper

When thinking about choosing a career, I considered my need to make physical fitness and nutrition a large part of my life, as well as my desire to help others. With these priorities in mind, I began an internship at the Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy clinic. I currently volunteer several hours a week at the clinic, constantly meeting new people and experiencing and learning new things. The value and importance I place on physical wellness in my own life has made me sure that I want to make a career of helping others achieve and improve their own physical fitness goals as quickly and efficiently as possible. I believe that Physical Therapy will be a successful, enjoyable, and rewarding long term career choice for me. Developmental Stages

For this part of the assignment I have chosen to base my task on Erikson's Latency Stage. This stage includes children between 6 and 1 years old. The age I will be focusing on is age in grade four. At this stage school is an important event. My activity is one that can be used as an art lesson in the classroom. The child needs to expand his/her understanding of the world and learn the basic skills required for school success. Basic task is to achieve a sense of industry, which refers to setting and getting personal goals. At this stage the student tries to develop a sense of self-worth by refining skills. The child takes pride in himself/herself for being able to accomplish the tasks normally expected of elementary school children. This activity will guarantee a sense of industry and self -worth.

At the Latency stage children want to do productive work on their own. This is a typical idea grasped in the stage. For this reason I chose an activity that is creative.

Help with essay on Developmental Stages

If there is an art lesson for the class to do, the teacher may show a final product that the children are expected to recreate. At the end they all look the same and if it doesn't that particular child will be made fun of. The child whose artwork doesn't look like everyone else's according to Erikson will feel inferior. Within the lesson I will be discussing there is no expectation for the final product because everyone's will look and be different.

The child must deal with the demand of the project in order to learn new skills or risk a sense of inferiority, failure and incompetence. This activity allows the child to have a sense of pride. It is an activity that all children can do and accomplish. There will be some risk involved because all the students will be starting out with different raw materials. If this activity was done in a classroom atmosphere I would suggest that the teacher bring in some junk for those who don't have as much as they others or all the materials can be put on a table and everyone in the class can share and use what they need.

In the activity that I have designed there is less chance for the student to feel inferior because he/she cannot do things that other children appear to do with ease.

The child will have fun doing this art lesson because it encourages individual creativity. The project is open-ended, so that the child may decide what the finished product will look like. It allows for limitless creative and self-expression as the child decides how

they will make his/her own creation. In the process of doing the art activity the student will learn how to be productive and feel the sense of accomplishment.

I'm calling the activity that I have designed "Funky Junk". This lesson is creative and turns into original works of art. Creatures can be invented with old machine parts, pieces of hardware, garbage and used kitchen gadgets.

Materials needed

Wire, electrical tape, scissors, carpenter's glue, pipe cleaners, duct tape, junk and decorations such as buttons, beads, stickers, cloth etc. Anything around the house that is considered junk will do.

The primary aim of a nations foreign policy is the self- interest of that nation. Throughout United States history, certain foreign policy actions have led to the debate over whether they were in the national interest. The Treaty of Versailles and the Lend Lease Act are prime examples of national policy. Foreign policies do not always work or do what they are meant to do, but whether they do or don't serve its purpose it is usually in the governments self- interest. The policies are meant to help the government they are coming from or atleast help the government out in the long run.

The Lend Lease Act (141) shows a prime example of a country (United States) passing a policy in order to help out another country (Britain) and in the long run the United States would benefit from it. The British government was running out of money, therefore they could not provide weapons, food, supplies to there military. President Roosevelt abandoned the cash and carry policy but not wanting to bring back the old war- debts controversy. The United State's lended the British goods that they needed and would be reimbursed after the war. The Lend Lease Act developed a debate, but public opinion was shifted in Roosevelts favor, 60 percent of Americans believed that it was more important to help Britain than to keep out of war. In addressing foreign policy the United States in this matter had self-interest but also the interest in another country. In this case the Lend Lease Act did not help Britain because by the time the aid reached Britain, the Nazis overran the countries.

The Treaty of Versailles was established in order to repay the European nations for their losses in the war. The treaty made Germany take full responsibility for the war, pay hug reparations to the allies, give up its military forces, cede lands to the new nations of Poland and Czechoslovakia, and give up it overseas colonies. President Wilson opposed many of the settlements of the Treaty of Versailles and treaties with the other Central Powers, but was willing to compromise because the treaties provided for a new -world organization, the League of Nations. The Treaty of Versailles was based on the self-interest of the United States and its plans to set up the league of Nations, but although helping out the countries by getting Germany to pay for the war. The treaty was not successful, many people feared that they were obligated to furnish troops to defend member nations. The Senate voted several times on the treaty, but always defeated it, but the U.S made separate peace with Germany and they never did join the League.

In addressing foreign policy and the self-interest of the nation that makes the policy. In the examples above you can see that the United States took self-interest into deep consideration but also the interest of its allies and how to keep peace. The policies many not have done everything they were suppose too, but they brought about peace and gained respect from its allies for the effort the U.S showed by issuing the policies. The Treaty of Versailles brought about peace with Germany and received reparations for the war, the Lend Lease Act although did not really serve its purpose, it gained respect and trust form our allies.

Thesis- I believe that the thesis that was conveyed throughout the story was having land ownership, because that was the American Dream.

Summary of Story- Early in the story, when Andon Rosicky is in Doctor Burleigh's office, he learns that he has a bad heart and does not have long to live. He then returns home, plunges into a chair, and begins to sew. While he sews, Rosicky lets his mind run back over his life. He has many memorable experiences. Rosicky has lived in London, New York, and now in Nebraska. Rosicky, formerly a tailor, now makes a living farming with his children. Rudolph, Rosicky's oldest son, has some trouble supporting his wife, Polly. Rosicky makes many sacrifices to help Rudolph's marriage stay together. He loans the family car and gives some money to Rudolph, even though Rosicky is very poor himself. Spring arrives, and his children are busy working in the fields. When no one is around, Rosicky disregarded his doctors orders, rakes some thistle plants out of one of his alfalfa fields, but the work is too tough on his heart, and Rosicky sadly dies the next day.

Key Passages Illustrating Your Thesis- Three passages that restate my thesis of having land ownership are

"to be a landless man was to be a wage-earner, a slave, all your life; to have nothing, to be nothing".

Do my essay on Neighbor Rosicky CHEAP !

Description of Form and Content- While reading through this story, I noticed Willa Cather used several different techniques to convey the message of the story.

Symbolism- Rosicky realizes the cities "built you in from the earth itself, comented you away from any contact with the ground. You lived in an unnatural world, like the fish in an aquarium who were much more comfortable than they ever were in the sea". I think that this means that Rosicky was much more happy living the simple life

with his family and working as a farmer. He didn't need to live in the big city and have a life like others. He just wanted to have something to call his own.

Mood- For Rosicky the idea of owning land really is a dream, and once he attains it he believes that all of his hard work paid off. Throughout the story, Rosicky seemed unhappy and depressed. Rosicky was never happy all of those years working daily and being a wage earner, his true passion was when he became a landowner, and seemed much happier once he achieve his dream.

Contrast- The contrast between the life of immigrants in the city and in the country is explicit and vivid, and leaves no doubt in the reader's mind as to which is preferable.

Flashback- One example of this is when Rosicky sits in his chair and reflects on his life. This is the point when we get a feel what Rosicky has been though. Why the simple things in life are very important to him.

Personal Response- In conclusion, after reading the "Neighbor Rosicky", you get a better respect for the smaller things in life. This story was extremely easy, and down to earth and factual. Rosicky was a good man, that raised a good family, and had everything he wanted due to his own hard work. This story is a story about thing that have been lost or forgotten over time. Everyone should read this story at least once.

Please note that this sample paper on Neighbor Rosicky is for your review only. The Central Theme in

"A Doll's House"

by Amy Graziano

One of the central themes in the play "A Dolls House" is secession from society. It is demonstrated by several of its characters breaking away from the social standards of their time and acting on their own terms. No one character demonstrates this better than Nora.

During the time in which the play took place, society frowned upon women asserting themselves. Women were supposed to play a role in which they supported their husbands, took care of their children, and made sure everything was perfect around the house. Work, politics, and decisions were left to the males. Noras first secession from society was when she broke the law and decided to borrow money to pay for her husband's treatment. By doing this, she not only broke the law, but she also stepped away from the role society had placed on her of being totally dependent on her husband. She proved herself not to be helpless like Torvald implied You poor helpless little creature!

Noras second secession from society was shown by her decision to leave Torvald and her children. Society demanded that she take a place under her husband. This is shown in the way Torvald spoke down to her saying things like …worries that you couldnt possibly help me with, and Nora, Nora, just like a woman. She is almost considered to be property of his Maynt I look at my dearest treasure? At all the beauty that belongs to no one but me - thats all my very own? By walking out she takes a position equal to her husband and breaks societys expectations. Nora also breaks societys expectations of staying in a marriage, since divorce was frowned upon during that era. Her decision was a secession from all expectations put on a woman and a wife by society.

Nora's secessions are very deliberate and thought out. She knows what society expects of her and continues to do what she feels is right despite those expectations. Her secessions are used by Ibsen to show faults of society. In the first secession, Ibsen illustrates that despite Nora doing the right thing, it is deemed wrong and not allowed by society because she is a woman. While the forgery can be considered wrong, Ibsen is critical of the fact that Nora is forced to forge. Ibsen is also critical of societys expectations of a marriage. He illustrates this by showing how Nora is forced to play a role other than just being herself, which leads to the eventual deterioration of her marriage. Throughout the play, Nora is looked down upon and treated as a possession by her husband. She is something to please him and is used for show. He is looked upon as the provider and the decision maker. Society would have deemed it a perfect marriage. Ibsen is critical of the fact that the marriage lacked love and understanding, as shown by Torvald becoming angry with Nora for taking the loan and saving him.

The central theme of "A Dolls Houses," i.e., secession from society, was made to be critical of societys view on women and marriage. Ibsen used Noras secessions as an example to illustrate that societys expectations of a womans role in society and marriage were incorrect. Her only flaw of strength was that she had considered backing out and taking her own life. To completely turn the standards of what is perceived of women, Nora needed to stand up for what she did and face the consequences. Her decision to leave was the exclamation point on his critical view of society.

October Sky

October Sky is a movie that teaches us a lesson in perseverance, pursuing our goals, and turning our dreams into reality. Homer Hickam, the main character, was such a person. When he was confronted with obstacles that caused failure, Homer continued to try. In this essay I would like to explore the relationship with his teacher, Ms. Riley, why Homer was chosen to go to the science fair instead of his friends, and Homer's relationship with his father.

Homer had someone who believed in him before the Rocket Boys even started shooting off successful rockets. Her name was Frieda Riley. Ms. Riley was Homer's 1th grade teacher. Since the time when Homer brought the rocket into school, she provided Homer with encouragement. She also convinced Homer and the Rocket Boys to join the science fair. On Homer's 18th birthday, she gave him a book on rocketry. Homer said it was the best present anyone had ever given him. Because of a mining accident, Homer was forced to quit school and work in the coal mine. Ms. Riley didn't want to speak with him after he quit. He soon found out that he hated coal mining and quit his job to go back to school.

Once he re-joined school, Homer and the Rocket Boys got the chance to compete in the school science fair in. Ms. Riley was very happy that Homer returned to school but because of an illness called Hodgkin's disease, Ms. Riley wasn't able to teach much. Homer and his friends worked day and night fixing, researching, building, welding, drilling and launching rockets that failed. Out of all the Rocket Boys, Homer became the leader because he was interested in rocketry the most. After they won the school science fair, they went on to the nationals but the school could only afford to send one person to Indianapolis for the National Science Fair. Homer's desire was so great that all the rocket boys decided Homer should represent Coalwood at the National Science Fair.

Order College Papers on October Sky

Different from Ms. Riley, Homer had a tense relationship with his father. There were a few times when Homer tried to get his father interested in rockets. But his father always had to work. Mr. Hickam thought very little about Homer's interest in rocketry. He also favored Jim, Homer's brother, because he was on the football team and he was given a college scholarship to play football. Homer's father was very tough on him and wanted him to work in the coal mine. However, Homer didn't want to work in the coal mine because he hated the job. When Homer won the National Science Fair he showed his father the award. He proved to him that he could do something important. His father wanted Homer to do something that he thought was important. He felt that Homer might never amount to much and was too much of a dreamer.

Working on the rocket project helped build the Rocket Boys self-confidence. They learned that they could do anything if they set their minds to it. Ms. Riley had a positive influence on the boys. It helped them become successful in life. Mr. Hickam helped Homer when his display was stolen at the National Science Fair. This showed Homer that his father really did care about him. Homers father finally came to his last rocket launch. Homer was very happy and let his father push the button to launch the rocket. It turned out that Homer's father was his hero after all.
