Style of Edgar Degas

Style is a particular, distinctive, or characteristic mode or form of construction or execution in any art or work. The style utilize by an artist can be seen through his or her art piece. By studying and copying the works of old masters of the Renaissance, Edgar Degas believes that it is beneficial in striving to become a perfectionist. He had a unique style that would cause him to stand out from the other impressionists. The fascination of movements and gestures, the influenced by Japanese prints, and the preference of artificial light are some of the components toward his distinctive style.

Firstly, Degas is widely recognized in drawing and painting the human figure in motion. He had a great passion for capturing a sense of movement. Driven by this challenge, he painted dancers in many different positions and bathers at different perspectives. He liked the artistic tension of arms and legs bending and twisting at abnormal angles. Unlike other artists at the time, Degas also manipulated the location of forms within the frame of the observer. Degas pushed people out of the center of his painting causing the viewers to move the eye deep into the painting. Degas experimented with various selections of media and styles. He made charcoal sketches, oil canvases, and sculpted plaster dancers. Regardless of what medium he used, Degas focused persistently on capturing the movement and emotions of daily life.

Despite his fascination with movements and gestures, he was also captivated by a study of Japanese prints of which style seemed to influence his work. Japanese printmakers such as Hiroshige, has influenced him and his drawings shows profound artistry. He used Japanese idea of asymmetrical design often using an object to set the subject to the side of a painting, images cut off by the edges of the frame, and unusual angles. These ideas were translated with the use of his own style and technique adding a distinctively individualistic point of view.

The Lesson

In Toni Cade Bambara's Short story "The Lesson" ther are many conflict with character and with society. The story takes place in a big city and revolves around young black kids that live in poverty and do not receive the best education. Their babysitter during the summer is an older lady that lives down the street but is not cared for by the kids. The first conflict in the story is character vs. character. Mrs. Moore is the old lady from down the street that watches the kids during the day. She is a very educated lady who went to college and tries to help teach the kids a thing or to. The kids are very rude and disrespectful towards Mrs. Moore and give her a hard time for trying to help them. "And schools suppose to let up in summer I heard, but she don't never let up"(116). There is also character conflict among the all the kids. Throughout the story they put each other down with verbal and physical abuse. The kids go through the whole story cursing at each other trying to make each other feel smarter than the other. They argue over who wants what toy and who's would be the best and worth the money paid to get it. The next conflict in the story would be character vs. society. The kids come from very poor families that struggle to just get by. They go to a toy store in town and see toys that cost more than they would make in years. The kids feel very shamed while in the toy store and wonder what type of people buy these sort of things. They are very shamed and embarrassed that their families do not have that kind of money " That is not much for democracy if you ask me. Equal chance to pursue happiness means equal crack at the dough"(11). In conclusion Bambara's Sort Story "The Lesson" had many different conflicts. It had character vs. character conflicts and character vs. nature conflicts and showed how the kids were raised knowing that money is hard to come by and should not be wasted on useless objects. And that everyone in this world has a chance to make something of themselves if they apply themselves to do good in life and in career.

Friendship is possible when both parties have fairly good emotional boundaries around what's private and not common ground. These boundaries are going to need time to be regenerated. If were going to separate, the harder task is to separate emotionally, not just physically. Casual leisure contact sends your unconscious the misguided message that the relationship will continue as usual. It will prevent you from getting on with the painful but necessary business of grieving over the losses. If you try to keep casual company with each other, you probably will begin to suffer strategic amnesia or another form of creeping denial regarding the reasons for the separation in the first place.

Going forward, instead of sadness I want to surround myself with love from my children, friends and family. Though here lately this has seemed to me the most impossible emotion to experience, it is to become my course of action. Love is the key to my control of myself and to the door that is opening toward moving forward. Love is what brought us into our relationship and love is the power that will lead me to the meaningful resolution of this pain I feel.

I love myself for those qualities, which brought me into the realm of your life. My willingness to give of myself and to take the risk of being hurt. And to love you in spite of the pain I am feeling is to give you the same freedom we will both need in order to move on.

Love is a force that renews us and prepares us for tomorrow. Hurt and anger is a shackle that keeps us tied to the past. I want to drop the shackles!

Custom writing service can write essays on Letting go

You will not soon be forgotten. The memory of you will help me by insisting on remembering the beautiful experiences that we shared. The painful ones, which separated us, will need no coaxing from my memory. I will take the qualities, which I found in you and develop them in myself, use them as a way of better experiencing my love for my children, my family and all the others who are important in my life. After all, those were qualities, which brought me into love, with you and they are no less worthy today.

In the eighteenth century poets use symbolism in most of their writings. Symbolism is the use of a person, an object, place, or an idea to represent itself at the same time. The most famous written that uses symbolism is William Blake. Many of his ideas are views of the world through the eyes of a child. For example, in the poems The Lamb and The Tiger by William Blake, symbolizes that the lamb is innocent and good, as for the tiger; it portrays evilness and experience.

William believed is that a lamb is like a child, meek and mild. When youre a child you are also innocent and inexperience. In the beginning of the poem it begins with Little Lamb who made thee? and what is so naïve about the question is how is a child, who has just began his life, going to answer the question when the rest of the world does not know the answer themselves. The reason why Blake asks such a question is because the child represents Jesus. Thats why the lamb is so pure and virtuous.

When Blake wrote The Tiger, he wanted demonstrate that when you an adult, you have already gone through life and have had many harsh experiences. The reason why he chose a tiger is because that kind of animal is savage like and has untamed forces in the world that promote human beings to perform evil actions. In the fifth stanza it says When the stars threw down their spears, / And watered heaven with their tears, / Did he smile his work to see? / Did he who made the Lamb make thee? and what that means is that Blake is asking if God who made the Lamb is seeing all the evil in the world. He is also asking if he brought done the Lamb because of the Tiger to balance things out. Will William s question ever be answered?

The Lamb is innocent and pure just like Jesus, and he was brought into the world to balance good and evil. The Tiger came to earth so it can help the ones who do not have any experience in the time to come. What Blake tried to expose is that in his perspective life will be filled with good and evil and that religion includes the pure as well as the terrible.

My favorite Gospel story about Jesus is one of faith, admittance, and learning to lean on others. The Gospel is called "Ask, Seek, Knock," and appears in Matthew 77-1. I like this Gospel so much because I think that people my age can really relate to it, unlike many of the Gospels stories that may seem impossible or even not important to us. "Ask, Seek, Knock" sends a message saying that if you are ever in need of something, never hesitate to ask God for help. But if you don't even take the time, energy, or belief to ask, then you will never receive. The Gospel questions us, saying, "Would any of you who are fathers give your son a stone when he asks for bread…As bad as you are, you know to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!" This passage really shows the true meaning of the human spirit. Whenever a child asks their parents for anything, be it a new toy or an outrageous car, the parent yearns to provide for their kids, giving them anything they want, even though they know they can't sacrifice $50,000 on a new car, or even a couple of dollars on the toy. Rich or poor, parents never want to have to tell their innocent children and admit to themselves that they don't have enough money. In a way, God feels the same way. When we ask for something, if it is right and just, he will always do what he can in order to make sure our prayers our answered. And while some people may feel that they have so many unanswered prayers, it could just be that God answered in a different way than what the person was thinking, and it might take a while to realize really that God has answered their prayer. The Gospel ends with the Golden Rule, which really stands for a lot. If we would just take the time to consider how we would feel if we treated our neighbors as we treated ourselves, a lot of us would stop what we were doing. You have to look at what you do to other people before you can get upset at what others are doing to you. So if anyone takes the time to ask God for help, then some door will be opened for him. It might not be the door the person was waiting at for God to open, but somewhere there is an open door, you just have to be open yourself to look for it.

Attitudes and Characteristics

I believe that the two most important attitudes someone must have when he is in a cross-cultural experience are an eagerness to learn and a readiness to give as well as to receive. I believe that if someone really wants to learn then all the more easy it will be for him to learn. He will learn to understand and only through understanding will they be able to accept the culture they are in. If they don't want to learn then they will spend their whole time criticizing the culture they are in and therefore they will certainly not be someone any one will want to be with or help. Someone must also be willing to give. This doesn't necessarily mean in the material sense although that could be a part of it. I mean that when in a different culture it is good to give something of your culture such as knowledge or even food recipes. I don't mean that you should compare your culture and try to prove it better. I mean that you can look for similarities so that you can identify with the culture you are in. If you give of yourself to someone else of another culture they will notice it and because of that they will try to help you as much as they can. They will accept you and guide you through your adaptation. So not only will you be giving part of your culture but this will help you in receiving of the other culture. As for the characteristics best to have I believe that the two best are a laid back person and a humble person. One mustn't go into another culture ready to criticize. You shouldn't criticize another culture, you should be humble about your own. Instead of comparing things in your culture with that of the culture you are in you should see the merits of the culture you are in. A patient person will learn to adapt far easier then one who is always impatient. He mustn't push his host rather must be at his host 'mercy'

In my life, diversity plays a very important role. Ever since I was in third grade, I can remember wanting to be different than everyone else in my class, and I still feel to this day it is important to be "me". My definition of DIVERSITY is the variety of having different characteristics to a single human being. It may sound a little wordy so I am going to break it down. What I am implying is that people come from different places in the world which allows them to become accustom to their own cultures. This usually allows each individual to be different. They could look different, dress different, eat different food, talk different, listen to different kinds of music, etc, etc, etc. Personally, I enjoy living on a "diverse campus" because it allows me to learn about other people's lifestyles and cultures.

The reading that I chose to write about was Miss America Contest Proves Diverse. The article addressed that The Miss America Pageant will be held next weekend, and was talking about how diverse the competition was going to be this year. Miss Alaska is an Inupiaq Eskimo, Miss South Dakota is a Lakota Sioux and Miss Delaware is of Indian decent. The pageant will also include six African Americans, and the show will be emceed by an African American for the first time in the pageant's history. They stated that "This multiculturalism is a recent development for an event that for more than thirty years excluded minorities of any kind", which proves to be true with the fact supporting that in 150, rule number seven in the contestant contracted stated that the contestants who were going to be involved with the pageant had to be in good health and be white. The article goes on to explain that when the pageant first started, city firefighters were to chauffeur contestants around town. The African American firemen/women were not allowed to do this procedure simply because they were not of the white race. In 158, the trend broke and African Americans were allowed to participate in the pageant and chauffeur the contestants around. In 170, Cheryl Browne of Iowa was the first African American to be crowned Miss America.Order custom research paper on Diversity
