Then there is cognitive complexity, which is the ability to understand things from another person's point of view (Adler and Towne 5). By Daria looking in a different point of view while at school, it enabled her to stay out of trouble and be accepted by her classmates at Beckford Elementary School. There is also the other environment, her South Central Los Angeles neighborhood, where she was also accepted because she knew how to act and talk when around this particular group of people.

Daria also was constantly monitoring herself to be able to observe the way she was behaving to use and shape a particular behavior (Adler and Towne 5). One way of her monitoring herself is not getting in trouble at school, speaking proper English, and her appearance.
