Gods Must Be Crazy is a movie that tries to twist real life situations into a "comedy". First off, I would like to state that it does a horrible job incorporating both of these. This movie had pieces of reality in it, but mainly it seemed to me, that it was trying to poke fun at the different cultures of the world. The main culture it was trying to turn into a comedy was the American Culture. Based on this early observation I had, I immediately lost interest and appreciation for this movie. I do not believe the humor referring to the American culture and ways was accurate or even funny. Now this movie did have some broad but accurate points in it as it refers to human geography.


This movie can relate to human geography in the aspect of the African culture that is so apparent throughout the movie. The language, family organization, economy, government, and religion discussed in this movie are accurate portrayals of what it is really like. These were the only things that related to human geography and were useful in gaining more knowledge. The clothing that these African people were depicted as wearing was accurate and told a lot about their culture. These wardrobes were so much different then anything I have seen, especially since they differ from my clothes. I thought their clothes were very unique and interesting. Obviously they can make use of all of their resources and provide themselves with the necessities of life and do not need money. Making use of their resources was also very intriguing to see. With everything that they can find, someone will be made out of it. For example, when the coke bottle was there, they used it for so many things. This is interesting primarily because we use it as something to drink out of and that is it. These people could and would use it for everything. They are obviously not as privileged as us and can make much better use of their resources. I know the way they spoke was suppose to be an attempt at a joke, but I believe they way they talked was accurate. Their language, which involves "clicks", is a beautiful language. I find it amazing that they can communicate like that, it all seems to sound the same to an outside person. Once again this was suppose to be a good laugh for the movie (which obviously failed), but in the end was an accurate representation of different languages, and show the differences in cultures around the world.


The biggest and most well done representation of something that relates to human geography is family organization, or they way the family interacts with each other. They all get along very well and seem to never fight. They share everything and work together to get things done and seem to be sufficient. They are always together and spend day and night with each other. This is remarkable because as an average American, I rarely spend time with my family. I am at school, my parents work, I play sports, I have homework, etc. I am constantly busy and rarely get to spend time with my family. This is in complete contrast to how the African families were portrayed in this movie. In the movie, it shows the families working together, no matter what the task.

Many things were changed in order to try and make this movie funny, when in fact it did the opposite.


I do not know of any other movies, books, news articles, or anything else that would emphasize the same concepts. I have to say this was in a league of its own. The only other things that could discuss the same concepts are documentaries or National Geographic-type magazines. Only factual movies or magazines that involve the African culture relate to this movie.


I would never in my entire life recommend this movie to other students. The main reason for this is because it is very uninformative and if they were looking for something educational, they came to the wrong place. If they are going to study concepts that can relate to this movie, I am positive that they can find other sources which would be much more sufficient in gaining knowledge. This movie was not funny, was not very educational, and the concepts that might relate to human geography are minimal and not deeply interesting. In Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an


American Slave, Douglass presents the reader with a


world in which Christianity and slavery walk hand in


hand; A Christian community in which the word master

identity? How can slaves differentiate themselves as


being men when they "know how old they are no more


than horses do." Furthermore slaves were forbidden to


learn to read to gain what Douglass termed the "key to


freedom". This denying another of literacy is in fact


another hypocritical act on the part of the owners. It


was expected of the slaves to be Christian; but how


can one be a follower of the book, when one cannot


read the book. Those who could read the word, would


often manipulate it to their advantage and often cite


it while administering a beating or raping this


victims.


Likewise, Douglass explains how their masters do not


acknowledge family ties among slaves. Family


relationships would allow slaves to develop a unique


sense of self and would encourage alliances among


slaves, a serious threat to the slave owners hold on


power. Douglass also states that he believes his


father was his first master, Captain Anthony. Denying


slaves information about their parentage allows slave


owners to avoid taking parental responsibility for


their unchristian sexual exploitation of female


slaves. Masters often sold these children,


embarrassing evidence of adultery and fornication, two


sins harshly condemned by the Christian religion of


these supposedly pious slave owners. For those who


weren't sold, the masters made sure of their misery


through severe beatings, only adding to the evil. An


example of this is the horrific scene in which Andrew


crushes the head of Douglass' younger brother.


Although Douglass does not say so, it is possible that


Captain Anthony was also his brother's father. All of


this is done for no reason symbolizing the senseless


violence towards children of slavery. If children


weren't enough for the reader, Douglass also goes to


illustrate the sad death of his grandmother as she is


left alone in a shack in the depths of the forest even


after raising her master from infancy to the grave she


is left to die like an animal. The slaveholder's


attacks at family structure do not end there. Further


into the narrative, Douglass describes how he is sent


by the "reformed" Thomas Auld to Covey. Douglass uses


this to attack the hypocrisy of religious slave owners


in that both men are highly religious yet they are


unforgivably cruel. Covey, who is deeply religious,


had a married man impregnate his female slave. Besides


the obvious sin of treating another human being like a


piece of livestock, there is a greater sin of forcing


a man to violate his marriage vows.


Douglass includes a great example of how slavery is


the antithesis of Christianity as he portrays Sophia


Auld's transformation upon becoming a slave owner.


Sofia was a kind, affectionate woman and, at first,


treated Douglass like a human being, discouraging his


servility and educating him. When her husband informed


her that education would ruin Douglass as a slave, she


began to treat him like property. Consequently, she


loses her former kindness and generosity and is


reduced to being just another cruel owner. Through


this Douglass maintains that slavery corrupts the


slave owner's humanity just as it corrupts the


slave's.


For a society so preoccupied with Christian morals


and beliefs, one must ask how slave owners and their


sympathizers could allow such barbarity. Douglass


explains this by showing how slave owners must


constantly deny the humanity of their slaves in order


to justify their misdeeds. By "dealing with the


brutes" the owner himself is reduced to being the


brute, and as a result turns to becoming piously


religious in order to convince himself otherwise.


Because slaves were classified as inferior and not


quite human, the legal system judged them as less


credible than their masters. In the courts the


testimony of a black witness was never equal to that


of a white witness. The slave's law began and ended


with his oppressor. No beating was unfair or too


severe unless the master said so. No sexual activity


was rape unless the master said so. No killing was


murder unless the master said so. In the unlikely


event the ruling be in favor of the victim the crime


would be considered against property, not an equal


person. Such everyday affirmation of ones position in


society only goes to justify the means. Some slaves


were so brainwashed that they fight other masters


slaves over whose master is better. These absurdities


are a direct result of the slave owners control over


the slaves self-knowledge. Douglass narrative


testifies that no master is a good master, even if


some are less brutal than others. All of these are


attempts at separating the blacks while the white


oppressors, on the other hand, keep up a united front.


None of Douglass' white co-workers would testify on


his behalf after the white apprentices nearly beat him


to death. Even after such affirmations, sooner or


later the slaves would demand their freedom. For this


the masters use their evil to devise a genius idea in


which they grant slaves days off during religious


holidays only to drink and engage in nonchristian


disillusioning acts which in turn disgust the slaves


with the notion of freedom ultimately making them feel


better to return to work. It is this ungodly


manipulation and deception that the slave owners pride


themselves.


Chapter after chapter, Frederick Douglass' narrative


is a powerful testament to the barbarity and hypocrisy


of the supposedly Christian institution of slavery.


This narrative is beam of light in a dark time in


American history where two apparently contradictory


beliefs merge together to benefit the immoral profit


hungry band of thieves known as the upper class;


Twisted individuals who filter the word of God and


manipulate it in order to further their profits. For


there can be no justice when a society can use

To what extent is this a full and fair description of the two protagonists?


In this quote, Malcolm, refers to Macbeth as a "dead butcher" and to Lady Macbeth as Macbeth's "fiend like queen." In this instance, butcher is implied to mean one who kills; showing neither remorse nor reason for his actions. The fiend is depicted to mean that Lady Macbeth is a very evil and immoral person, capable of enchanting her victims into a false sense of security. As Macbeth's reign as king draws out, he may have shown a very insensitive attitude in the way that he murders many people. However, to say that he is butcher is not a fair description of him, as it does not represent his properties of nobility, courage and honour that he had at first displayed. The description of Lady Macbeth as a fiend is a more representable one. She is the one who induced the power of evilness into Macbeth's soul, allowing him to commit such a heinous act as killing his king, an act which he never would have committed prior to her coercing.


In the beginning, Macbeth is a powerful lord as Thane of Glamis with a prospering life being lived with his wife, Lady Macbeth. He is a noble and valiant soldier, not a butcher and he is quite capable of dying in battle to save his king. This property is one of his strongest, even supported by the acknowledgment that he receives for it his gaining of a new title as Thane of Cawdor. Following this event, Lady Macbeth receives a letter from her husband, informing her of his new title as well as the witches and their predictions. Although her blood may have been pure a time long ago, the Lady is not so now; she immediately develops a plan for the murder of Duncan so that her husband can become the new king. However, she notes that her plan is flawed because of Macbeth's worthy and kind nature. Macbeth may be able to slaughter his enemies on the battleground, but he shows great respect and kindness to his friends and especially his king. She knows that although he harbours great ambition, it will be difficult to convince him do such an act of murder and treason "Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o' th' milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way. Thou wouldst be great, Art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it."(I. 5. 15-1).

This is a combination which would then allow her to become more of a butcher than Macbeth ever became. Throughout the whole play, the Lady gives definition to the term fiend in countless and varied ways.


Macbeth is again seen to counter the image that has been drawn of him as a butcher prior to Duncan's murder as he contemplates the severity of his actions and whether he should continue or not. Macbeth says "First, I am his kinsman and his subject strong both against the deed…" (I. 7. 1-14) and argues against his murder of Duncan, he does not believe that is right for him to kill both his king and his cousin. Macbeth succeeds in persuading himself against the murder of Duncan, as seen when he says "I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself and falls on the other…" He compares his ambition to that of riding a horse, but then says that he has no purpose to leap too high on his horse as to kill his king, because he knows that he will only fall off. Clearly no butcher would stop to contemplate his actions before killing someone and a butcher would certainly not be able to stop themself, as butchery is an act that is done senselessly and without thought.


At this point in time, the Lady is seen to again exercise her powers over her husband. One of these powers is her knowledge of his weaknesses, and she uses this knowledge to finally change his constantly swaying opinion. She says "To be the same in thine own act and valour as thou art in desire? Wouldst thou have that which thou esteem'st the ornament of life, and live a coward in thine own esteem…" (I. 7. 40-4). In this statement she attacks Macbeth's honour and bravery as well as his vaulting ambition. Macbeth is told that he should be able to act as he thinks and he is called a coward for not doing so. It is very unlikely the Macbeth has ever been called a coward before and it is possible that this comment in itself would have the power to invoke Macbeth to do the terrible deed, to prove to her that his courage is still strong. However, the Lady's terrible intentions are not fully understood until she makes the following comment to reinforce her argument as to why Duncan should be killed "I would, while it (her baby) was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this." (I. 7. 56-58). It is no human who says this but a person whom fiend does little to describe; what mother would ever cause such harm to their baby, even if they had sworn to do this?


Macbeth is not a butcher, and the lady is not just a fiend. As can be seen, although the quote does describe perhaps certain aspects of both their characters it is a very vague description and does not fully portray their characteristics. Macbeth is a brave man, led to his downfall because of his weaknesses and the unfortunate property of his wife to exploit them. A fiend is a more appropriate description of the Lady but it still fails to capture the true essence of her character as an extremely disturbed and evil person. It would be fair to say that the quote tries to summarise their characters in one short line but in the process makes them seem less dramatic and less complex than they really are.

I think that everyone in his or her life has thought about what it would be like to be Kate from Titanic, and fall in true love. Well, I know that I have and it actually came true.


Last year my family and I took a cruise to the Bahamas. When my parents booked the cruise I never thought the day would actually come that we would leave port. But when that day did it was the most incredible thing I have ever experienced.


I stepped out of the van and onto the sidewalk to unload our suitcases; I just stood there frozen like a statue in awe of the amazing ship. It was 2500 feet longer than the Titanic, stocked with plenty of lifeboats. The people scurried along the walkways to the building like ants to a picnic basket. The commotion of the people broke my train of thought and our family moved along with the rest of the "ants." While standing in line I thought to myself, "Will I find my one true love, my own real Jack?"

The night slowly arrived and my sister and I changed clothing, freshened up and were on our way to the lido deck, which is the top deck of the ship where a lot of parties take place. People were still swimming in the pool and splashing around in the hot tubs, and there was "The Hairiest Man" contest going on in the middle platform, the winner received a full body massage.


"Meet me back here at 1:30am," whispered my sister. "Have fun and be careful if you need me I'll be at The Lounge."


I agreed and went along my way. I found myself at the rear of the ship. I went to the railing, but the sky was so dark it was almost like someone had put a paper bag over my head. There were a few stars out, but their light wasn't enough to see with. As I turned around there he was, just sitting on a bench writing a letter. I couldn't move, and neither could my eyes. They were glued to him like gravity. He looked over and waved, then he came over and introduced himself as Evan.


Evan was about 6'5" and was as skinny as the pen he was writing with; his accent was a strong Australian twang. His blond, short, curly hair set off his deep blue eyes. We sat and talked for hours, almost like we knew each other all our lives. When 1:30 came I was severely disappointed, I didn't want to leave, but I told Evan what level I was on and what room I was staying in. I said goodnight and he watched me as I walked across the slippery deck. I told my sister all about him, and she just smiled and said she was happy for me. "But Ashley," she says, "He'll be leaving in a few days!" I knew she was right, but I didn't want to bring myself to that tragic time when I was having the time of my life now!


I was awakened the next morning by a loud knock at the door and my sister drying her hair in the bathroom. I threw on a robe and opened the door, but it was only my parents making sure we were up. Not one second after I had closed the door, there was another knock.


"What do you want," I shouted as I flung open the door. But it wasn't my parents; it was Evan.


"Just thought you might like breakfast," he said in the most caring voice. "I hope you like pancakes and bacon," he asked.


I was speechless; the guy I had just met a few hours ago was bringing me breakfast in bed! We sat at the table and ate breakfast, but without warning my sister strolled out of the bathroom. She was dressed thankfully, but still shocked to see a total stranger sitting in our cabin.


"Hi, I'm Rebecca," she announced while shaking his hand. "You must be Evan."


Then Evan smiles and looks at me, "Nice to know I've been talked about," he exclaims. "Nice to meet you as well," he replied back.


I was so embarrassed I just slumped down into my chair. Rebecca left and Evan asked me if I would be his date to dinner the next evening. I was so excited I could have screamed, but I simply replied yes.


"Thank you for the breakfast Evan, but I need to join my family," I said. "I will talk to you this evening."


Evan excused himself and off he went. I ran across the hall to tell my parents and they were so happy for me. My sister on the other hand, was a bit jealous of the fact that her younger sister got a date before she did.


The day of my date was so busy. My mom was helping me get dressed and do my hair, while my sister at the same time was trying to put makeup on me. It was a crazy mess. At 6:00 p.m. sharp there was a knock at the door. My mom quickly answered and there stood a tall gentleman wearing a black tux with tails, and a rose in his hand.


"You must be Mrs. Johnson," Evan asked. "Nice to finally meet you."


My mom was very impressed and so was I. He looked awesome!


As we entered The Jubilee, which was the restaurant in the ship, our Madre D showed us to our table. Our first course was served very shortly after we received our drinks, followed by four other courses, which included a salad, our main dish, a fruit tray, another meat tray, and then dessert. After that meal I didn't think I could move, but Evan insisted on going dancing. As we entered the ballroom I didn't know what to expect, but there were a lot of people there and everyone was having a fantastic time. A huge variety of music from coast to coast was played while the young and old all danced the night away. As we left I decided that this was the most incredible night of my life, even though in a few hours it would all come to a close and I would have to say goodbye to Evan. My heart was hurting and my mind was boggled. I didn't know how to act, I was sad, but then I was so happy.


"What are you thinking of Ashley," questioned Evan?


"I don't want to say goodbye," I said with a tear rolling like a boulder down my cheeks.


"How about we put that aside and enjoy the time that we do have left, when that time comes we will deal with it, but for now be happy," replied Evan.


The rest of the week was all a blur. Evan and I had the greatest time, and it was almost impossible to say goodbye. The last night we were on the ship we went to a Las Vegas show in the theater. Lights were jumping all over the place and the music was surrounding us. The performers were extraordinary and the costumes were outstanding, but the word goodbye kept entering my mind and seemingly turning my smile upside down. Everything made it even harder to say goodbye. We promised to keep in touch, as everyone does, when he got back to Australia and I returned home to Missouri! Jane Austens Emma is a novel of courtship. The main character, Emma Woodhouse, is a heiress that lives with her widowed father at their estate, Hartfield. At the beginning of the novel, she is a self-satisfied twenty-one year old woman who feels no need to get married. In the beginning of the novel, Emmas governess, Miss Taylor, has just married Mr. Weston, a wealthy man who owns Randalls, a nearby estate. When Mr. Westons previous wife died, he sent their only child, Frank Churchill, to be raised by her brother and his wife. It seems as though Mr. Weston could not at that time provide for Frank.


Without Miss Taylor as a companion, Emma adopts the orphan Harriet Smith as a friend that she wants to play the same role in Harriet's life that Miss Taylor played in hers. Harriet lives at a nearby boarding school where she was raised, and knows nothing about her parents. Emma advises Harriet on everything she can, including the people she interacts with. Robert Martin is the son of a family of farmers that finds interest in Harriet, but Emma discourages her from pursuing any type of relationship. At the same time, Frank Churchill is in town has not yet visited his father and his new wife at Randalls, which has caused some concern. Emma, without having met him yet, decides that he must be a good suitor for her, since he is the right age and is of the same social status that she is. Another character who occupies Emmas thoughts is Jane Fairfax. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Bates, a poor widow. Jane is the same as Emma in every except for status and this makes Emma a bit jealous. There is some thought that Jane might be involved with Mr. Dixon, a married man, but this is only gossip. Mr. Elton returns from Bath with news that he is engaged to a Miss Augusta Hawkins. This news saddens Harriet Smith.


Frank Churchill finally visits the Westons, and Emma is pleased to find that he lives up to her expectations, although Mr. Knightly does not think much of him. Emma and Frank begin to spend time together, but he acts a bit immature. As Frank and Emma spend more time together, Mr. Knightly becomes somewhat jealous, but Emma also becomes jealous because she suspects that Mr. Knightly might be in love with her rival Jane Fairfax. Frank quickly leaves the Randalls when he learns that his aunt is sick. Thinking that Frank was ready to profess his love to her, she convinces herself that she is in love with Frank as well, but is not sure how to tell that she actually does love him. But then she realizes that she must not be in love with him, because she is as happy with him gone as she is with him there


Mr. Elton brings his new wife back to Highbury. She is a gossip that compares everything and everyone to her supposive great lifestyle of her family and relatives. She also lacks formality and can seem obnoxious. Emma realizes immediately that she does not like her, and once Mrs. Elston catches on to this she as well dislikes Emma in return.


When Frank Churchill returns to Highbury, he and Emma sponsor a ball at the Crown Inn. During this ball, Mr. Elton rudely ignores Harriet Smith, but she is saved from Mr. Elton's snub by Mr. Knightly, who dances with her. After the ball, when Harriet and Emma are walking home, they are assaulted by a group of bums that try to take Harriet's purse away from her. Frank appears and saves her from the men and this incident becomes the gossip in Highbury. This leads Emma to believe that Frank Churchill would be a good match for Harriet. The next day when talking to Emma about what happened, she does say she has some feelings for Frank and this helps take her mind off of Mr. Elston.


At an outing at Box Hill, Frank Churchill, thinks of a game to play to entertain Emma. During this game Emma insults Ms. Bates and Mr. knightly gets very angry at her for hurting her feelings when she should actually pity her. Emma goes the next day to apologize.


Meanwhile, Mrs. Churchill, Franks aunt, passes away. Because she is so overbearing there are things that Frank needed to keep secret from her. One of these secrets is that he is secretly engaged to Jane Fairfax. Emma for the second time will have to break Harriet's heart. However, when she does tell her the news about Frank and Jane, Emma surprisingly finds out that she did not have interest in Frank, but in Mr. Knightly. Ever since he saved her from Mr. Elston at the ball she has been fond of him. Emma then realizes that she herself loves Mr. Knightly and should be the one with him but it was Emma that made Harriet think that she could be with such a high social status.


Mr. Knightly soon after professes his love for Emma and they plan on getting married, but there are a few issues. First, if Emma gets married she would have to leave her father and she does not want to do that. Second, she needs to tell Harried about her new love that happens to be Harriet's love interest as well. Well, Mr. Knightly decides that when they get married he will move to Highbury because he understands that Mr. Woodhouse can not be left alone and should not have to move. This makes Emma very happy. Harriet takes the news of Emma and Mr. Knightly well because she happened to run into Robert Martin and she realized that she does not have to have high aspirations and she becomes engaged to Robert who seems to be the most appropriate suitor for Harriet.


The novel ends with many happy marriages. Robert Martin and Harriet Smith, Frank Churchill and Jane Fairfax, and Mr. Knightly and Emma Woodhouse, who has grown to accept that she can give up some of her independence to be with a husband.
