This movie can relate to human geography in the aspect of the African culture that is so apparent throughout the movie. The language, family organization, economy, government, and religion discussed in this movie are accurate portrayals of what it is really like. These were the only things that related to human geography and were useful in gaining more knowledge. The clothing that these African people were depicted as wearing was accurate and told a lot about their culture. These wardrobes were so much different then anything I have seen, especially since they differ from my clothes. I thought their clothes were very unique and interesting. Obviously they can make use of all of their resources and provide themselves with the necessities of life and do not need money. Making use of their resources was also very intriguing to see. With everything that they can find, someone will be made out of it. For example, when the coke bottle was there, they used it for so many things. This is interesting primarily because we use it as something to drink out of and that is it. These people could and would use it for everything. They are obviously not as privileged as us and can make much better use of their resources. I know the way they spoke was suppose to be an attempt at a joke, but I believe they way they talked was accurate. Their language, which involves "clicks", is a beautiful language. I find it amazing that they can communicate like that, it all seems to sound the same to an outside person. Once again this was suppose to be a good laugh for the movie (which obviously failed), but in the end was an accurate representation of different languages, and show the differences in cultures around the world.

The biggest and most well done representation of something that relates to human geography is family organization, or they way the family interacts with each other. They all get along very well and seem to never fight. They share everything and work together to get things done and seem to be sufficient. They are always together and spend day and night with each other. This is remarkable because as an average American, I rarely spend time with my family. I am at school, my parents work, I play sports, I have homework, etc. I am constantly busy and rarely get to spend time with my family. This is in complete contrast to how the African families were portrayed in this movie. In the movie, it shows the families working together, no matter what the task.

father was his first master, Captain Anthony. Denying

slaves information about their parentage allows slave

owners to avoid taking parental responsibility for

their unchristian sexual exploitation of female

slaves. Masters often sold these children,

embarrassing evidence of adultery and fornication, two

sins harshly condemned by the Christian religion of

these supposedly pious slave owners. For those who

weren't sold, the masters made sure of their misery

through severe beatings, only adding to the evil. An

example of this is the horrific scene in which Andrew

crushes the head of Douglass' younger brother.

Although Douglass does not say so, it is possible that

Captain Anthony was also his brother's father. All of

this is done for no reason symbolizing the senseless

violence towards children of slavery. If children

weren't enough for the reader, Douglass also goes to

illustrate the sad death of his grandmother as she is

left alone in a shack in the depths of the forest even

after raising her master from infancy to the grave she

is left to die like an animal. The slaveholder's

attacks at family structure do not end there. Further

into the narrative, Douglass describes how he is sent

by the "reformed" Thomas Auld to Covey. Douglass uses

this to attack the hypocrisy of religious slave owners

in that both men are highly religious yet they are

unforgivably cruel. Covey, who is deeply religious,

had a married man impregnate his female slave. Besides

the obvious sin of treating another human being like a

piece of livestock, there is a greater sin of forcing

a man to violate his marriage vows.

Douglass includes a great example of how slavery is

the antithesis of Christianity as he portrays Sophia

Auld's transformation upon becoming a slave owner.

Sofia was a kind, affectionate woman and, at first,

treated Douglass like a human being, discouraging his

servility and educating him. When her husband informed

her that education would ruin Douglass as a slave, she

began to treat him like property. Consequently, she

loses her former kindness and generosity and is

reduced to being just another cruel owner. Through

this Douglass maintains that slavery corrupts the

slave owner's humanity just as it corrupts the

slave's.

For a society so preoccupied with Christian morals

and beliefs, one must ask how slave owners and their

sympathizers could allow such barbarity. Douglass

explains this by showing how slave owners must

constantly deny the humanity of their slaves in order

to justify their misdeeds. By "dealing with the

brutes" the owner himself is reduced to being the

brute, and as a result turns to becoming piously

religious in order to convince himself otherwise.

Because slaves were classified as inferior and not

quite human, the legal system judged them as less

credible than their masters. In the courts the

testimony of a black witness was never equal to that

of a white witness. The slave's law began and ended

with his oppressor. No beating was unfair or too

severe unless the master said so. No sexual activity

was rape unless the master said so. No killing was

murder unless the master said so. In the unlikely

event the ruling be in favor of the victim the crime

would be considered against property, not an equal

person. Such everyday affirmation of ones position in

society only goes to justify the means. Some slaves

were so brainwashed that they fight other masters

slaves over whose master is better. These absurdities

are a direct result of the slave owners control over

the slaves self-knowledge. Douglass narrative

testifies that no master is a good master, even if

some are less brutal than others. All of these are

attempts at separating the blacks while the white

oppressors, on the other hand, keep up a united front.

None of Douglass' white co-workers would testify on

his behalf after the white apprentices nearly beat him

to death. Even after such affirmations, sooner or

later the slaves would demand their freedom. For this

the masters use their evil to devise a genius idea in

which they grant slaves days off during religious

holidays only to drink and engage in nonchristian

disillusioning acts which in turn disgust the slaves

with the notion of freedom ultimately making them feel

better to return to work. It is this ungodly

manipulation and deception that the slave owners pride

themselves.

Chapter after chapter, Frederick Douglass' narrative

is a powerful testament to the barbarity and hypocrisy

of the supposedly Christian institution of slavery.

This narrative is beam of light in a dark time in

American history where two apparently contradictory

To what extent is this a full and fair description of the two protagonists?

In this quote, Malcolm, refers to Macbeth as a "dead butcher" and to Lady Macbeth as Macbeth's "fiend like queen." In this instance, butcher is implied to mean one who kills; showing neither remorse nor reason for his actions. The fiend is depicted to mean that Lady Macbeth is a very evil and immoral person, capable of enchanting her victims into a false sense of security. Macbeth says "First, I am his kinsman and his subject strong both against the deed…" (I. 7. 1-14) and argues against his murder of Duncan, he does not believe that is right for him to kill both his king and his cousin. Macbeth succeeds in persuading himself against the murder of Duncan, as seen when he says "I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself and falls on the other…" He compares his ambition to that of riding a horse, but then says that he has no purpose to leap too high on his horse as to kill his king, because he knows that he will only fall off. Clearly no butcher would stop to contemplate his actions before killing someone and a butcher would certainly not be able to stop themself, as butchery is an act that is done senselessly and without thought.

At this point in time, the Lady is seen to again exercise her powers over her husband. It is very unlikely the Macbeth has ever been called a coward before and it is possible that this comment in itself would have the power to invoke Macbeth to do the terrible deed, to prove to her that his courage is still strong. However, the Lady's terrible intentions are not fully understood until she makes the following comment to reinforce her argument as to why Duncan should be killed "I would, while it (her baby) was smiling in my face, have plucked my nipple from his boneless gums and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this." (I. 7. 56-58). It is no human who says this but a person whom fiend does little to describe; what mother would ever cause such harm to their baby, even if they had sworn to do this?

Last year my family and I took a cruise to the Bahamas. When my parents booked the cruise I never thought the day would actually come that we would leave port. But when that day did it was the most incredible thing I have ever experienced.

I stepped out of the van and onto the sidewalk to unload our suitcases; I just stood there frozen like a statue in awe of the amazing ship. It was 2500 feet longer than the Titanic, stocked with plenty of lifeboats. The people scurried along the walkways to the building like ants to a picnic basket. The commotion of the people broke my train of thought and our family moved along with the rest of the "ants." While standing in line I thought to myself, "Will I find my one true love, my own real Jack?"

"I don't want to say goodbye," I said with a tear rolling like a boulder down my cheeks.

Antonio and Delio are stewards in the Malfi household who despite their low status play a very large role in the way the play progresses. The touching and last scene where we see Antonio and Delio meet for the last time is 5.5. Bosola arrives with Antonios dead body. What ensues is the quickest and bloodiest killing that Ive read, all the main characters in the play now all die by killing each other. Delio appears on stage with Antonios son as heir and the play ends there.

Delio has managed to survive the whole play without so much as a threat of death or imprisonment and emerges as regent duke at the end of it all. Does Delio in fact fail Antonio?

He is, I think, not only a less than admirable best friend but also a failure he fails to seduce Julia or to importune Pescara and he is not there when his friend needs him, when Antonio is killed by Bosola. After the ball, when Harriet and Emma are walking home, they are assaulted by a group of bums that try to take Harriet's purse away from her. Changing Perspective is the change in ones views; it can be the change in perception about ones culture and heritage like the change viewed in Melina Marchetta's novel Looking for Alibrandi. Josie Alibrandi the main character in Looking for Alibrandi, is a third generation Italian Australian who is ashamed of her legacy and feels she is not accepted by either the Italian or Australian community and is always the victim of racial comments. You can also see this racism and non-acceptance in the movie Remember the Titans produced by Walt Disney this movie is based on a true story about the first African-American football coach of a mixed race team. Satire and humour are used throughout the novel, through the use of satire the reader can understand Josie's perspective, for example when Josie says, "Telecom would go broke if it weren't for the Italian community." This shows how Josie feels about the gossiping ways of the Italians. The humour of the novel especially the self-mockery that shows Josie is actually "Looking for Alibrandi".

Walt Disney's Remember the Titans also uses first person narration, the story is told through the eyes of Sheryl, and Sheryl tells the story of how the titans show the small town how to "trust the soul of a man rather than the look of him". This too like in Looking for Alibrandi shows Sheryl's opinions and her emotions more evidently and allows the responder to become more involved in the events occurring in the movie. With the movie being about racial issues, racial slurs are detected through out. Camera angles are used to show how the different races felt about each other the camera angle would look down on the black player if the white player was speaking to them this angle shows how they view the other race as below them, but at the end of the movie a levelled camera angle is used to show how they both see themselves as equals.

In The Door Miroslav Holub uses an optimistic tone to present the change as positive. "If there's a fog" an obstacle or difficulty when we open the door the poem then reassuringly says "it will clear" Repetition of "go and open the door" is used at the beginning of each stanza to highlight the fact that a change is behind the closed door and this repeated command creates an emphatic tone that implores the reader to take a chance. The poem presents the door as a symbol, a closed door can be an intimidating barrier and the participant is prompted to change their world and to explore and new environment. And regardless of what we find on the other side of the door and how we perceive the poem itself, it emphasises that "even if" we think, "nothing is there"…."at least there will be a draught" suggesting that we will still feel something.

Sky High by Hannah Roberts uses similar techniques as to the ones Miroslav Holub used. The composer uses a nostalgic tone to show the reflection of childhood and to convey the change in perspective. The persona in Sky High gained optimism and her result of maturing and the changes that occurred in her life. Like in Looking for Alibrandi and Remember the Titans first person narration is used this again allows the responder to see the washing line through the eyes of the child and to feel closer to the narrator. Figurative language is used quite frequently through the short story, the hyperbole "almost sky high" shows the feelings she used to have as a child and it also reinforces the title of the story and highlights the feeling she used to experience. The personification of the washing line " silver skeletal arms" shows the imagination she once had as a child, the insights into the change in perspective from childhood to adulthood are presented and reinforced through the use of figurative language and first person narration.

The four texts Looking for Alibrandi, Remember the Titans, The Door and Sky High each show a change in perspective. "Any change, even a change for the better, always has some drawbacks." This quote I believe means that when a change occurs, even if it is a good change there is always a drawback to go with it. And this can be shown in The Door, the change in perspective will occur after you open the door, this change is for the better because its opening a new world up for you and the drawbacks from this change is that once you opened the door and stepped into the new world it might not be as exciting as you would of anticipated, it wasn't the change you were hoping for. This quote can also be linked with Remember the Titans, the change in attitudes towards each other when the titans go to camp they accept each others differences and become one but this change is then frowned upon when they return to school, that is the drawback that occurred from that change. Another drawback from a change is the one that occurred in Sky High, where the girl grew up she went from childhood to adulthood even though she found freedom after her change she still wishes to be able to be a child again and to be able to swing on the wash line once again.

Many female artists in the 17th century used women as subject matter. Images of women are powerful because women have often been treated as the second sex. Such images are often paradoxical in their power. Female artists often times represent the most extreme representations of women's subservience in effort to convey their messages. Elizabetta Sirani's 1657 piece, Our Lady of Sorrows is a religious etching depicting the Virgin Mary. She shows her mourning the death of Christ. Angels who too are mourning his death surround Mary. It is evident that this is the occasion because we see instruments of Christ's passion. The chief instrument is the cross but we also see nails, a lance, the crown of thorns, and dice. The presence of these instruments not only serves to indicate Christ's death but they represent man on a larger scale. They along with the angels lamenting Christ's death dominate the composition. Although Mary is centered in the picture plane, the emphasis is not on her but on her grief for Christ and his pre-existence. Her gestures and expression as well as those of the woman on her left show their need for him, and furthermore, woman's need for man. This scene shows how women are wilted without man. Sirani uses chiaroscuro in her etching to create a sad mood. A contrast between dark and light can be looked at as the contrast between life and death as well the use of dark and light help to aid in the portrayal of man's dominance. Darkness represents man's solidity and light represents his holiness. We can conclude that the strategic use of darks and lights exists to represent man because every other part of the composition thrives on instilling that idea. The diagonal lines symbolize depth and dimension, which along with light and shadow add to the drama of the scene. The cross is being lifted into the air by the angels. This alludes to the idea that Christ is up overhead. Sirani has rendered the foreground and background so that there is a great deal of light in the background where Christ would be. According to Christian symbolism in From Abacus to Zeus, light is an ancient sign of divinity and holiness. Everything surrounding the Virgin has to do with Christ. Sirani has rendered the image in this way to show that man is seen as 'higher' than woman. The strongest evidence that there is a representation of male dominance is that emphasis is lifted from the lamenting Virgin and placed on the reason why she is crying.

She is tired and worn from this time-honored tradition of serving man. Additionally, Roghman has chosen to put this woman in a domestic environment. This is yet another expression of a woman's position and lack of independence. All of the aspects of the piece work together to create this monotonous everlasting reminder than man is higher than woman.

Both of these female artists express in one-way or another that man governs woman and holds the dominant place in life. In their work, they represent that women have been stereotyped and marginalized by men who fail to see their real abilities and understand their real desires. However, Jacob Matham's engraving, The Seven Virtues, expresses the opposite image of the female. He illustrates seven scenes in the mannerist style. The women have elongated, contorted poses, and the compositions are crowded into seven individual squares. Each contains a rather burly yet elegant Renaissance woman who possesses one of seven virtues. Matham characterizes women in a much broader way than do Sirani and Roghman. He encompasses a much more dimensional virtuous creature through his female representations of Faith, Hope, Charity, Justice, Prudence, Fortitude, and Temperance. On the whole, he gives women a lot more credit than do the two female artists. It is ironic that the male artist shows a powerful 'Renaissance' woman while the female artists depict their kind as modest and meek. In Roghman's etching the only virtue we observe is the virtue of obedience. Matham's piece almost contradicts the ideas expressed in the other two.

The careful execution of both Sirani's and Roghman's pieces are evident in their momentous power to convey the artist's sentiments towards male dominance. The fact that these works are both prints is not arbitrary. The provocative qualities that both possess were not to be overlooked and thus with the use of printmaking methods the artists were able to popularize their work and enlighten many. During this time period, and earlier, it was common for the society to believe that man had hierarchy over women. This was something that prevailed not only in this time but also for centuries preceding and following. Women of the time felt it was their duty to express this. Male dominance is more explicit in Roghman's piece however the conveyance of this idea through Sirani's religious perspective equally effective.
