Holden tries to call Jane Gallagher again but no one is home. He calls an old student advisor from the Whooton School names Carl Luce who is now a student. They meet at a bar. Carl gets sick of his stupid remarks about gay people and his Chinese girlfriend and Carl leaves. Holden stays at the bar for a while. He goes to central park where he used to watch the ducks.
He sneaks into his apartment and sees Phoebe. She is mad he was expelled but he explains his fantasy of being the catcher in the rye.
